Automatics and Robotics

Type: 1st cycle (BSc) and 2nd cycle (MSc)
Profile: general academic
Form: full-time and part-time

The scope of Automatics and Robotics covers both theoretical and practical aspects of designing, setting up and maintaining control systems in technical objects and technological processes.

Automatic systems are present in all aspect of our present life: in all branches of industry, communications, medicine, power industry and agriculture. The dynamically developing labour market offers a number of very interesting options for graduates of Automatics and Robotics which are related to the use of control systems in high tech medical apparatuses, vehicles, renewable energy sources, teleinformatics, intelligent buildings.

This study line also offers education in methods of recovering energy from renewable sources, e.g. photovoltaic systems and wind energy. The students have a chance to acquire practical skills in designing and exploitation of this type of systems in our laboratories, unique in Poland.

The work offer for graduates of Automatics and Robotics is broad:

  • companies designing, implementing and maintaining complex control and automation systems for various branches of economy and industry,

  • companies producing automation elements, equipment and systems,

  • companies producing advanced informatic control and management systems,

  • companies where the production is highly automated, computerized and robotized,

  • scientific institutions and r&d centers,

  • leading technical universities in Poland and abroad,

  • technological and design offices as well as in laboratories of large industrial companies.

Automatics and Robotics curriculum covers both theory and applicability of devices controlling technical objects and technological processes. Automation systems enter all areas of life nowadays. The advantages of automation and robotization can be seen in a number of applications, e.g. in industry, communication, medicine, power industry and agriculture. The graduates of Automatics and Robotics easily find employment on the dynamically developing labor market of control systems application in advanced medical apparatuses, teleinformatics and intelligent buildings. Apart from this, students are also taught in novel methods of production and utilization of renewable energy sources, e.g.: photovoltaics and wind power engineering. The research laboratories, unique on Poland's scale, create possibility of acquiring practical skills in designing and exploitation of that kind of systems.

At the 2nd cycle studies of Automatics and Robotics two specializations are available:

Computer-aided Control System

The subject of the studies is the method of design, construction and programming of digital and computer automatic systems used for measurement, visualization and technological processes control. The graduate gains the knowledge in principles of mathematical modelling systems, system analysis, digital control of measurement signals, the method of optimal control synthesis and new automatics based on PC and specialized PLC microprocessor controllers.

Computer Science in Control and Management

The main aim of this specialization is to familiarize students with the use of new software engineering methods and information systems as well as their application for solving problematic issues related to the process control and industry management. The specialization base consists of computer science subjects, e.g. programming languages, operation systems, computer networks, databases, artificial intelligence and subjects related to management algorithms, especially discrete systems implemented in modern informatic systems.

The graduates of Automatics and Robotics can find employment in:

  • scientific institutions and technical universities,

  • r&d centers,

  • technological and design offices and laboratories of large industrial companies,

  • technological and design offices as well as laboratories in large industrial centers,

  • companies with highly automated, computerized and robotized production,

  • companies producing advanced informatic managing systems.
