The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science, and Biomedical Engineering (EAIiIB) at the AGH University of Science and Technology is one of the largest faculties in Polish universities. In the comprehensive evaluation of scientific and research and development activities of scientific units of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Faculty was awarded SCIENTIFIC CATEGORY A. In recognition of the high level of educational quality, the Polish Accreditation Commission issued a POSITIVE evaluation valid until the 2022/2023 academic year.

The department employs 288 people. The scientific and teaching staff consists of 52 independent researchers, 83 assistant professors, 57 assistants, and 26 lecturers. In 2015 – 2017, faculty members published 2006 articles, excerpts in books, and monographs, of which as many as 292 on the so-called Philadelphia List. Scientific and didactic activities are supported by 90 doctoral students (third-degree students). The employees of the Faculty of EAIiIB have significant achievements to their credit in the field of innovations, inventions, and patents. In a period of 3 years, more than 180 patents and utility models were filed.

The Faculty has roots back to 1952 when the Electromechanical Department was divided into two faculties (Electrification of Mining and Metallurgy and Mechanization of Mining and Metallurgy). The Faculty developed dynamically by changing its name several times. The Faculty adopted its current name in 2012 after the restructuring of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science, and Electronics. The EAIiIB Faculty is a continuation of the Biomedical Engineering faculty in place of the Interdepartmental School of Biomedical Engineering.

At the Faculty, the strongest representation is in the sciences, linked in some areas to the natural sciences. The strong connection of exact and basic sciences with practical applications allows for innovation in the area of technical and natural sciences and is very strongly emphasized in all areas of technical sciences practiced at the Faculty.

The Faculty’s strategy in the scientific sphere includes the development of priority research directions at the highest level in the areas of state-of-the-art information technology and techniques, bioengineering, robotics, ecological generation, transmission, conversion, and use of electricity, modern electrical equipment, and metrology. The strategy also includes the development of contacts and links with industry and the acquisition of research funding from both domestic and foreign sources.

The strategy goal of the Faculty of EAIiIB AGH in the field of study is to maintain the highest level of educational quality and to develop the best possible position in the emerging European Higher Education Area, including the internationalization of education.

The Faculty offers didactics in the following fields: automatics and robotics, electrotechnics, computer science, biomedical engineering, and microelectronics in technology and medicine in first- and second-cycle degree studies, where c.a. 3000 students are enrolled. We are also meeting the needs of English-speaking students by offering education in English as a specialty in the second-cycle degree studies and Computer Science of the first degree studies (from X. 2019).

We offer our students high standards of education, aligned with the needs of modern industry, which makes our graduates highly sought after on the job market. They usually take jobs while still studying.
