Description of the field of study:

The field of application of Biomedical Engineering encompasses various aspects of applications of many branches of technology in medicine and health care. The field of Biomedical Engineering offers an interdisciplinary education enriched with knowledge of the latest developments in science and technology. The purpose of these studies is to educate an engineer familiar with technical support issues of medicine in electronics, computer science, material science, biomechanics, and robotics. An essential element of the study is practical knowledge of medical issues to the extent of cooperation with the physician and the current and foreseeable future scope of technology applications in medicine. A special feature of the study of Biomedical Engineering is the practical contact with state-of-the-art apparatus, diagnostic and therapeutic systems, based on electronic, IT, telecommunications, material, biomaterial and tissue methods and technologies.

The graduate of the field of study has knowledge in the following areas:

Biomedical engineering, medical informatics, medical electronics, biomechanics engineering, biomaterial engineering, and bionanotechnology. Special emphasis is placed on gaining knowledge in telemedicine and advanced data analysis (data science, artificial intelligence, Machine learning).

The graduate of the field of study can:

Using modern apparatus and diagnostic and therapeutic systems based on ICT, IT, electronic, and material methods, techniques, and technologies. Graduates are prepared to cooperate with medical doctors in the integration, operation, operation, and maintenance of medical apparatus and operation of diagnostic and therapeutic systems; participate in the manufacture and design of medical apparatus and diagnostic and therapeutic systems; participate in IT projects related to telemedicine and data mining; and participate in scientific and research work related to the design and manufacture of biomaterials and medical implants.

A graduate of the course can perform data mining and develop related web applications.

Career prospects:

Biomedical engineering graduates are prepared to work: in companies engaged in innovative IT technologies (telemedicine, IT support of diagnosis and therapy), in the position of medical engineer in the design, integration and operation of modern diagnostic and therapeutic systems, in companies engaged in the construction and production of medical equipment, in health care units in the positions of experts and technical directors responsible for the selection and proper use of technical facilities, in scientific and research units in the development of modern electronic, material and mechanical technologies supporting living organisms, in service agencies of medical apparatus, and in auditing and accreditation companies in the field of medical technology, in administrative units in the decision-making area related to health care.
